One of the most decorated all-rounders to ever grace the squared circle has tonight been announced as the headline attraction for the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame.
The Olympic gold medallist Kurt Angle will once again be back amongst the WWE universe, with the man himself tweeting out “I’m coming home.”
Angle debuted for WWE at at Survivor Series 1999, and went on to become a multiple time champion, winning the European, Intercontinental and World Heavyweight titles.
The Olympic Hero was able to make the WWE Universe laugh when he wasn’t wowing them with his athleticism, even having his head shaved on stage by Stone Cold Steve Austin, and chugging down a whole carton of milk.
After leaving the WWE, Angle became a main stay at TNA, until he went on his farewell tour last year. But that wasn’t the end of Angle’s in-ring action as he went on to wrestle for many independent companies including facing Zack Sabre Jr for Rev Pro and Joe Coffey at ICW’s Fear and Loathing event.
Speaking to ESPN about the news he would be inducted to the Hall of Fame, Angle said: ‘I was shocked. I’ve been out of WWE for a long time and out of touch with them so I didn’t really expect this. It’s a huge honour. This is the only Hall of Fame that I’m not in and probably [the one] I want to be in the most.
‘This is the one that means the most for me. I had a lot of fun entertaining the fans for seven years with WWE, and I’m glad that my hard work paid off.’
To what extent Angle’s future involvement with WWE will be is still up in the air, but it is without a doubt that the WWE universe will want to see at least one more Olympic Slam and one more Ankle Lock.
