The secret assassin of football: Are Aaron Ramsey’s goals killing celebs?

On the day when the sad news broke that Alan Rickman had died at the age of 69 from cancer. There were spooky similarities to the death of David Bowie five days previous.

Was there a common denominator? Probably not. However, there is a strange link between their deaths and that is Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

No the pair weren’t die hard Gunners, whose favourite player was the Welsh international. No apparently Ramsey has a knack of knocking off celebs with his goal scoring ability.

It all started in 2009, let me set the scene. Wales are away to Lichtenstein after a poor World Cup qualifying campaign. Ramsey had already spoken to the worlds press saying he wanted to end the campaign on a high. Little did he know his goal in the 2-0 victory would be the end for someone.

A few days after Ramsey sealed the win for the Red Dragons, Spanish Journalist Andrés Montes was found dead in his family home, the cause of death was unknown. All sounds a bit of a coincidence right?

Let me continue.

Fast forward to May 1, 2011. Ramsey has just netted the only goal of the game for Arsenal against bitter rivals Manchester Unite, giving Arsene Wenger’s men all three points. It also gave the US Navy Seals that added incentive to find one of the world’s most wanted terrorists.

That’s right the very next day the leader of Al Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden was finally found a shot dead. Well done Aaron.

This is where it starts to get spooky, as later that year Ramsey hit the back of the net again, in to 2-1 defeat to North London rivals Tottenham. The lose must have hit iPhone creator and Apple CEO Steve Jobs pretty hard as he died 72 hours later.

What became infamously known as the ‘Aaron Ramsey Curse’ continued, as Colonel Gaddafi, Whitney Houston, Paul Walker, Robin Williams and even Sir Richard Attenborough followed the light of an Aaron Ramsey goal.

Now it appears the ‘curse’ is stronger than ever, striking twice within the space of a week.

The midfield mystro helped put Arsenal into the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, but at the cost of losing music legend David Bowie. Then last night the Welshman was among six goals scored at Anfield in a 3-3 draw with Liverpool, only for the ‘curse’ to high British acting sensation Alan Rickman.

With Ramsey apparently on a rich vein of scoring form, celebrities around the world must be wondering who will be next.
